A Man Named Scott
Amazon Studios | Directed by Robert Alexander | July 2019

Directed by Robert Alexander, A Man Named Scott is an Amazon original documentary exploring the genre-defying career of Kid Cudi an artist who redefined hip-hop by embracing vulnerability and rejecting traditional definitions of masculinity.

The film chronicles Cudi’s journey beginning with his 2009 debut album Man on the Moon: The End of Day, which broke ground with songs tackling depression, anxiety, and loneliness. It captures a decade of creative evolution, introspection, and emotional depth that continues to resonate with audiences across generations.

As a member of The Slauson Rec Theater Company, I was commissioned alongside Shia LaBeouf and a group of performers to create an immersive performance piece for the film. Working closely with Director Robert Alexander, I supported all stages of the production—from choreography to technical execution—helping translate Cudi’s emotional storytelling into a visceral, visual experience.

Key Contributions:

  • Collaborated with Director Robert Alexander and The Slauson Rec Theater Company to stage a live, interpretive performance for the documentary.

  • Served as on-set choreographer and production assistant, managing movement, blocking, and actor readiness across the shoot.

  • Oversaw wardrobe, makeup, and staging details to ensure a cohesive visual style aligned with the film’s emotional tone.

  • Maintained a smooth, supportive set environment to allow performers to work freely and responsively within emotionally vulnerable material.

  • Helped bridge creative direction and technical execution for a performance piece that honored Kid Cudi’s journey through music and mental health.
